Analysis: Eric Joyce defends Wings “quality” lies

WITH FRIENDS like Ex-Labour MP Eric Joyce, you clearly don’t have any. AhDinnaeKen replies to Mr Joyce’s recent claim that Wings presents the world with “quality” analysis.

Mail Monthly Browsers

Wings Over Scotland claims to have 346,000 unique visitors per month to his website. The Mail Online, by comparison, has 243 million. Oh!

By Longshanker aka @ergasiophobe

DISGRACED EX-Labour MP Eric Joyce threw down the gauntlet to his readers recently.

He challenged them to compare the quality of Nationalist website Wings Over Scotland’s analysis to the standards of the BBC’s and the newspapers.

AhDinnaeKen decided to respond to that challenge.

Joyce said: “In simple terms of quality, I encourage any readers here who don’t already have a view about Wings (and there are a few) to take a look at any single Wings story and make their own judgement about whether analysis there is at least up to the standard of – frankly actually way above – the standard they’ll find at the BBC website or in most newspapers.”

To keep it simple and topical for Joyce – we assumed he was drunk or grievously assaulting someone when he made the challenge – we chose one of Campbell’s most recent anti-BBC clickbait rants: https://wingsoverscotland.com/heres-to-you-mr-robinson/

In the piece, Squealer Campbell, editor of Wings, responds to the BBC’s Nick Robinson’s claim that sites such as Campbell’s view their attacks on the BBC as a “key part of their political strategy.”

Campbell then embarks on a standard, for him, ad nauseum ad hominem attack on Robinson in which he attempts to justify his site as a plausible outlet of political commentary rather than the hyperbolic extreme propaganda that it really is.

Ironically, Campbell confirms Robinson’s claim that Wings ‘most shared and liked stories are attacks on the MSM and the BBC in particular’.

Campbell said: “Three of this site’s top 10 most-read articles of all time, including the #1 and #2, are about the BBC, and one of them concerns Robinson himself…”

So far so humdrum. Quality wise it’s pretty dull for non-partisans. Much like the low level drone of the local pub politics bore.

But then, near the end of the piece, the real, empirically quantifiable, demonstrably provable, predictably inevitable, drop in “quality” appears. And Mr Joyce should take careful note of the following and query it with Campbell.

For near the end of the piece, Campbell illustrates, through the use of a table, that his site is in direct competition – in terms of readership – with the mainstream newspapers.

It’s a cynical, manipulative, risible lie which has already been debunked by this site several times. For the sake of Mr Joyce we’ll summarise.

In the readership table below Campbell makes it look like his “Unique Readers” figures are on a direct “like for like” par with the newspapers.

Readers Figs Ho Ho

This table was published in Campbell’s recent rant in Nick Robinson’s direction. Impudent and bold it may be. But it’s a lie. Wings figures are not remotely comparable to the National Readership Survey figures.

They’re not.

They’re nothing remotely like it. The newspaper readership figures referred to by Campbell comes from the National Readership Survey which is conducted independently by IPSOS Mori and partners. It costs the newspaper industry a fortune due to its importance to advertisers who use the figures to plan their newspaper advertising strategies.

Campbell’s readership figures, however, come from his webhosts and are based on Google analytics figures. Actual reader figures can be reduced by a factor of up to ten or more. Usually more.

For the sake of clarity, Campbell’s webhosts use the term “unique visitors”. It is a term interchangeable with; “unique users”, unique devices” and “unique browsers”.

It is not interchangeable with “unique readers” because “unique readers” are living, breathing, quantifiable individual human beings.

For the sake of comparison, the Mail Online recorded 243 million monthly “unique browsers” in Jan 2017 as reported in the Press Gazette (illustrated above).

Unique visitors Wings

Campbell claimed the figures above were “something close to a like-for-like comparison of online traffic for Scotland’s biggest news brands.” That’s his ‘big lie’. They’re nothing close to a like for like comparison.

Campbell’s relatively paltry monthly figures are less than 0.15% of the Mail’s figure. And that’s a true “like for like” comparison.

Yet, according to Campbell’s table, he gets 68% of the Mail’s readership. In effect, Campbell has compared apples with oranges and got raspberries.

If a “MSM” newspaper, or the BBC, did such a thing in any of their reports or features, they would be hauled over the coals, and castigated for grossly misleading their readers.

But Campbell doesn’t have to answer to outside bodies. He doesn’t even answer to his “echo chamber” donors who – just like Eric Joyce – are clearly incapable of discerning “quality” from accuracy, impartiality, analysis or truth.

That’s why AhDinnaeKen decided to take Mr Joyce’s challenge. When diatribe dressed up and believed as quality analysis is so easily disproved, it needs to be pointed out.

Campbell’s a liar and that’s a “quality” that comes through loud and clear in  the “quality” of the piece looked at today.

We await Mr Joyce’s counter argument with distinct disinterest.

Like for Like comparison

Campbell made the above claim after his annual mendicant appeal on IndieGoGo. For “something close” read ‘nothing like’. This statement really did make AhDinnaeKen chortle. If you think the above is “quality” analysis then you should look up the meaning of the word. You clearly don’t understand it and should adjust your mindset accordingly.

I’ll smash your heads and ask questions later – Wings Over Scotland

VIOLENT DODGY liar named and shamed as editor of Wings Over Scotland – Stuart Campbell.

The five floor, five bedroom, townhouse, Campbell claimed was a "huge block of rented offices."

The five floor, five bedroom townhouse which Campbell claimed was a “huge block of rented offices.”

By Longshanker aka @ergasiophobe

A NOTORIOUS cybernat threatened amateur copyright investigators with extreme violence after they exposed his dodgy internet dealings in the late 90s, it has been revealed.

Stuart Campbell, 48, warned have a go sleuths Damien Burke and friends: “if I find any of you outside my door, be warned that I’ll smash your heads off the railings first and ask questions later.”

The chilling threat followed Burke’s revelation that Campbell’s home address in Bath matched the billing address of a hooky software company trading as Rocketship Services.

Rocketship was raking in the cash by selling and distributing CDs packed full of stolen game software at £30 per disc.

Burke’s investigation exposed Campbell’s posh Bath town-house residence as the front for the selling and promotion of the illegal CDs.

Stolen game software included hundreds of titles from Atari, Nintendo, SEGA and Commodore with an estimated street value of around £200,000.

Sinister cybernat Campbell, editor of Nationalist blog Wings Over Scotland, had denied Burke’s allegation that he was trading as Rocketship Services.

The bathroom in one of the floors of Campbell's former residence.

The bathroom in one of the floors of Campbell’s former residence. Rocketship Services sold their illegal discs at £30 a pop.

When challenged by Burke that it was an “extraordinary coincidence” that Campbell’s residential address matched Rocketship Services billing address, Campbell defended himself saying: “And I suppose I’m also all of the 300 or so other people whose address this huge block of rented office units is?”

But the claim that the address was a huge block of rented office units was a lie.

Campbell’s residential, and Rocketship Services’ billing, address was revealed by Burke as 4 Brock Street: a five bed, five floor, town house in one of the most sought after, expensive and prestigious locations in Bath.

Campbell’s violent threat followed suggestions from Burke and associates that they would visit the building to confirm if it was indeed the “huge block” of office units’ claimed by the Wings editor.

Burke reckoned a site visit would prove Campbell was lying about his association with Rocketship Services.

And that’s when Campbell demonstrated his willingness to resort to extreme violence, threatening to ‘smash heads first and ask questions later’.

The threat had the desired effect and frightened the amateur sleuths off, leaving Rocketship Services to continue creaming off profits at the expense of legal businesses.

Burke later revealed: “Rocketship’s posts were made using the same version of Microsoft software (used by Campbell), right down to the build number. Stuart and Rocketship upgraded their software at the same time, or within hours of each other. Rocketship’s posts came from Pipex, as did Stuart’s. The message IDs in Rocketship’s posts were similar to Stuart’s.

“On attaining Rocketship’s postal address via a false request for where to send a cheque for one of their illegal CDs, the 4 Brock Street, Bath address was supplied.”

Campbell strenuously denied the accusation. He said: “It’s been proven beyond doubt – by an independent observer – that these (big old five-storey town building converted into office units) premises are used by, among others, a letting company which forwards mail to dozens, even hundreds of people.”

4 Brock Street in Bath is currently on the residential rental market for a modest £3750 per calendar month.

Campbell is believed to have moved out some time last year, after his highly successful fundraiser.

Today, Campbell’s Wings Over Scotland launched it’s yearly Indiegogo fundraiser to allegedly, “mobilise for an emergency second indyref within months”.

At the time of writing almost £23,000 has been raised – enough to rent 4 Brock Street for approximately six months at current market rates.

Beautiful well kept gardens and 'maid service' are all part of the perks of a £3750 property.

Beautiful well kept gardens and ‘maid service’ are all part of the perks of a £3750 pcm property in Campbell’s corner 0f Bath. Champagne Nationalists ‘n’ aw that.

Sturgeon proposes final solution for BBC bias

THE PRAVDA-ESQUE BBC must learn who its true masters are said Saint Nicola of Sturgeon yesterday. AhDinnaeKen reports:

Fake 'Reverends' shall be the new televangelists of journalistic propriety said a Nationalist spokesperson yesterday.

Fake ‘Reverends’ shall be the new televangelists of journalistic truth, propriety and integrity said no Nationalist spokesperson yesterday.

By Meeja Byaasculture media and BBC anti-Scots bias correspondent

SAINT NICOLA of Sturgeon has accused the BBC of letting her country down.

She claimed the corporation had failed to show due deference to Sun King Alex of Salmond and had never once referred to him as “Your grace”.

The Firstminster also said the broadcaster had regularly failed to properly reflect on just how great independence would be for her, her party, her sovereign people and her sovereign people’s party.

And she added that some sovereign viewers in Scotland were left with the impression that the SNP didn’t have all the answers which, of course, it does.

Saint Nicola added she did not believe there was “institutional bias” in the BBC’s referendum output – she knew the bias was “sustained and unrelentingly unfair” and “brainwashing” in its criticism of magic money tree eckonomics.

Speaking at the Edinburgh International TV Festival, she said the Tories ideological assault on the institution could also provide an opportunistic ‘final solution’ for Scotland: nicknamed GIRFEV (Getting It Right For Every Viewer), all BBC journalists would have a ‘named person’ responsible for overseeing their broadcasting output.

She said: “We have put forward a further amendment that BBC staff and journalists should sign a new BBC code of conduct pledging they would not publicly criticise a decision, policy or consequences of a SNP decision or policy.

“The sovereign will of the Scottish Nationalist people expects no less than due deference from their public broadcaster. Any other standard will be viewed as apostasy and dereliction of duty and be treated accordingly.

“If Scotland’s elected representatives can be gagged by SNP diktat, then it is only right and fair that the unelected and undemocratic BBC should be bound by the same rules.”

Wings Over Scotland and the poverty porn vanity project of champions

WINGS OVER Scotland’s Stuart Campbell did an allegedly good and kind thing recently. Donning the cloak and mantle of a philanthropic samaritan, he ran an Indiegogo fundraiser with the intention of helping a recently convicted thief pay her draconian court case fees and fines. But is this ‘act of kindness’ anything other than a tokenised “gesture” of narcissistic self promotion and fetishised poverty porn? AhDinnaeKen investigates:

Self promotion and chastising of the Scottish media in one Tweet. Result!

Self promotion and chastising of the Scottish media in one Tweet. Result!

“There is a place where kindliness and charity tips into narcissism and self-promotion.” – Eric Joyce – Wings Over Scotland contributor.

By Longshanker aka @ergasiophobe

STUART CAMPBELL of Wings Over Scotland elevated his status to that of social media sainthood recently.

At least, he did so, in the eyes of his more gullible followers and supporters.

The “kind” “reverend” organised an Indiegogo appeal to raise funds needed to pay convicted thief, Louisa Sewell’s, court fees.

Those with a more sceptical eye may have spotted a few things ‘not quite right’ about the “reverend’s” alleged benevolence.

According to Campbell, as soon as he became aware of Sewell’s predicament, he was so overcome with compassion he felt compelled to do something.

“Help make it happen for a small gesture of solidarity and Stuart Campbell!” ran the heart tugging mendicant styled phraseology at the bottom of Campbell’s Indiegogo fundraiser page.

Help make it happen - for Stuart.

Help make it happen – for Stuart.

A somewhat curious choice of wording, given the beneficiary of the charitable donations is supposed to be Sewell, not Campbell

Perhaps, like many, we’re missing something by the phrase “make it happen for… Stuart Campbell’. Perhaps not. It’s the first of many indicators that Campbell’s so called “gesture of solidarity” was nothing other than an onanistic exercise in vainglorious “narcissism and self-promotion”.

A quick trawl of the Wings timeline revealed that the fund had been set up with no contact having taken place between Campbell and Sewell or Sewell’s lawyer.

A curious state of affairs, considering that the “kind” “reverend” should choose to champion her without at least the courtesy of seeking her permission to do so beforehand.

Some might call it arrogant presumption on Campbell’s behalf. Others would see it for what it is…

Effectively, Campbell’s action has stripped the unfortunate Ms Sewell of any dignity she may have had left by making her a widely publicised “charity” case – whether she chose to be the recipient of his ‘charitable’ act or not.

Indeed, it’s a full-on tip of the hat to the dark side of neo-Dickensian Victoriana, where Campbell is publicly parading his charitable acts and expecting plaudits for doing so – witness the allegedly humorous tweet chastising the Daily Record and Daily Mail (above).

Tasteless and exploitative at best, calculated and manipulative at worst.

What’s most curious though and serves as a demonstration of the double standards, bordering on criminal stupidity, of Campbell’s alleged “media monitoring” role is the “facts” the papers missed out.

In a Wings blog Campbell wrote, “We explained this site’s most fundamental purpose as being to teach people how to read between the lines and spot what isn’t being said.”

There are quite a few important things which aren’t being said in the original story reported in The Kidderminster Shuttle newspaper.

Anyone with a modicum of emotional intelligence might have found out the answers before becoming a public champion of the poor hungry benefits victim forced to steal confectionery to feed herself.

According to the Shuttle, Ms Sewell stole a pack of Mars bars because her benefits had been sanctioned and she had been hungry for days.

Missing information i.e. “what isn’t being said” includes the following:

  1. Unemployment in Kidderminster is very low at approx 2 per cent of the working population (ONS figures). What was Ms Sewell sanctioned for?
  2. What circumstances led to Ms Sewell being hungry for days? (aside from the obvious).
  3. Sewell’s solicitor claimed in court Sewell had no one to turn to. Why didn’t she visit Kidderminster’s Salvation Army? They do food parcels for those in need and it’s less than 600m away from the Kidderminster Jobcentre.
  4. The original report said that Sewell had received Foodbank vouchers. The Kidderminster foodbank is approx 100m away from the Jobcentre. When was Sewell issued with the vouchers and why couldn’t she visit the foodbank? The shop the Mars bars were stolen from – Heron Foods – is approximately 200m away from the Jobcentre and the foodbank is on the way.
  5. The Kidderminster Shuttle reported the magistrate as saying: “We do not readily accept you go into a shop to steal just for being hungry.” What else was said by the Magistrate in summation before sentencing? One sensational and emotionally charged line in a local newspaper is hardly enough to provide the full picture.
  6. Does Sewell have previous convictions for theft or crimes of dishonesty? There is no mention anywhere of this pertinent fact.
  7. Campbell claimed in follow up newspaper reports that Sewell “was failed by society on so many levels and at so many points down the line it’s just horrific.” How could he tell from the condensed ‘news value’ information provided by the Kidderminster Shuttle report?

For someone who claims to “teach” people to “read between the lines and spot what isn’t being said”, Campbell made some heavily amateurish and clumsy presumptions in his kneejerk sentiment based reaction.

Indeed, benefit sanction ‘victim’ stories provide archetypal emotionally charged ground for propagandists like Campbell to exploit and manipulate for their own self-serving purpose: anger coupled with maudlin sentiment masquerading as civic pride and noble expressions of collective identity.

Courtesy and etiquette doesn't even come into it.

Courtesy and etiquette doesn’t even come into it.

Opportunism plays its part, of course, as does a Nationalist mindset where the fate of Ms Sewell isn’t anywhere near as important as the opportunity to chastise the ‘evil’ UK welfare system and the Scottish media – all fundamentally underpinned by Campbell’s calculated self-promotion and narcissism.

Perhaps AhDinnaeKen is being too sceptical. We know through practical experience and numerous examples, just how brutal, unjust and uncaring the current welfare system can be on some of the most vulnerable people in society.

But it’s just such opportune circumstances which allow extremists like Campbell to cynically manipulate and play with people’s emotions in order to achieve their self-serving aims.

If Ms Sewell truly is a poor victim then, to a degree, it’s all well and good that her draconian court fees and fines are going to be paid for her.

However, anyone thinking Campbell’s fundraiser was about the fate of Louisa Sewell needs to think again. It was always about Campbell.

As his Tweets and posts prove, Sewell’s story is the sideshow. The star attraction is Campbell himself. Take a look at the collective and maudlin expressions of thanks aimed at him if you find that hard to believe.

Poverty porn fetishism serves only the purveyors.

Who’s the real beneficiary of this story? Hint, it isn’t Louisa Sewell.

Who's going to monitor the media monitoring the media. Melissa would be hopeless at it.

Who’s going to monitor the media monitoring the media? Melissa would be hopeless at it.

Sturgeon is a traitorous turncoat for writing in Daily Mail – Wings Over Scotland

EXTREMIST website turns bilious rantings onto exalted SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon. Misogynist traits didn’t take long to come to the fore say critics of Wings’ editor Stuart Campbell. AhDinnaeKen reports:

This puts Sturgeon in the same mould as Curran claimed many of Campbell's cohorts of cybernats

This puts Sturgeon in the same mould as Curran claimed many of Campbell’s cohorts of cybernats. Campbell, meanwhile, blew off some steam in Sturgeon’s direction.

By Longshanker aka @ergasiophobe

AN EXTREMIST cybernat website editor has attacked SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon as ‘ridiculously naive’ for writing in the Scottish Daily Mail today.

Wings Over Scotland’s Stuart Campbell blasted Sturgeon for ‘validating’ every alleged “cybernat smear” run by the campaigning newspaper.

He accused Sturgeon – a leader with a 60% public approval rating – of doing more harm than good by recognising the Mail’s claims that cybernat’s are poisoning political debate in Scotland.

Sturgeon’s piece in today’s Scottish Daily Mail is a statement of intent that online abuse, of the type typified by Campell, will not be tolerated by the SNP leadership.

The SNP leader’s warning follows the Mail’s campaign to highlight the toxicity of online debate in the country.

According to Campbell’s swivel eyed conspiracy theory, Ms Sturgeon is assisting the Daily Mail at the expense of her party.

He said: “She’s got more to lose than gain”.

Critics of Campbell’s extremist website see this statement as a signal that the site may soon turn it’s misogynistic eye on Sturgeon in the same manner it recently attacked seasoned independence campaigner and education SPAD, Kate Higgins.

Campbell’s site has already described Sturgeon’s stance on Full Fiscal Autonomy as a “bit rubbish” and accused her of U-turning over the proposed privatisation of Scotland’s ferries – in the same manner as Labour.

“The SNP has now become so large and popular that Nationalist Front extremists like Campbell are struggling to remain relevant in the eyes of zealous supporters”, said a concerned independence supporter today.

“Attacking Nicola’s sensible and responsible rapport with the media is one way for Campbell to think he’s doing something worthwhile other than navel gazing in his bedroom on the proceeds of other people’s money.”

Campbell, 47, is a single, never married, siblingless, childless, wife beater apologist and assimilated Englishman who lives in the genteel city of Bath.

SNP ambitions thwarted as the Empire Strikes Back

THEY tried to fight them on the benches, they tried to fight them in the lobbies, but all it took was the guile of two veteran MPs to repel the cream of the Tartan hordes:

Despite having youth and overwhelming numbers on their side, this coterie of SNP MPs still could not take and hold Dennis Skinner's seat at Westminster.

Despite having youth and overwhelming numbers on their side, this coterie of SNP MPs still could not take and hold Dennis Skinner’s seat at Westminster.

By Allies ArmieTartan Goonery correspondent

THE MOST ambitious tartan invasion of Westminster was thwarted this week as SNP ‘goon’ tactics were repulsed on the beaches of the commons green benches.

After four long and exhaustive days of achieving hee haw, the SNP MP hordes were finally faced down and defeated by two plucky pensioners in solitary counter attacks.

Veteran fighting Tommy, Dennis Skinner MP, established and held a bridgehead on the commons benches throughout the week by using a simple diversionary tactic to outflank the Nationalist goons .

And Faither o’ the Hoose, Gerald Kaufman MP, delivered a metaphorical kick in the stones to the pride of the black and yellow hordes.

He said: “It’s all very well for them to try a mob attack en masse, but to try and move one of the longest-serving members of parliament out of a seat that he’s occupied for decades, it’s stupid, Skinner is much too wiley for them, as the results of this futile battle showed.

“They’re goons and it’s plain for all to see that they want to publicly match Salmond’s cheap stunt expulsion from the commons when he interrupted the Chancellor’s Budget speech in 88.

“Even then, Skinner was in before them. In 1985 Skinner used the Ten-Minute Rule Bill to call the Chancellor to account so, even then, the SNP were left following in Skinner’s wake.”

Angus Robertson – Skinner’s seat will be our Sudetenland

SNP’S GLOATING lightning war of triumphalism outflanked by 83 year old political veteran:

"With regard to the problem of the Sudeten Parliamentary Sitz, my patience is now at an end!" said Gruppenführer Angus Robertson yesterday.

“With regard to the problem of the Sudeten Parliamentary Sitz, my patience is now at an end!” said Gruppenführer Angus Robertson yesterday.

By Gerrit UpyePolitisch Korrespondent

SCOTLAND’S WESTMINSTER Gruppenführer, Angus Robertson, last night signalled that his blitzkrieg of Nationalist triumphalism had been thwarted by a plucky 83 year old Tommy.

“I could cope”, he said, “with being a small and mostly insignificant party in the last parliament due to my appealing surround sound system purchased on Unionist parliamentary expenses.

“I could just about tolerate the jeers and jibes from the Unionist Untermenschen on the opposing benches following the snivelling cowardly result of the Neverendum debate.

“I could even put up with the counter-productive stream of pishy consciousness that forms the vast majority of Pete Wishart’s tweeting career.

“But,” he concluded, with barely concealed fury, “there is absolutely no way I am going to accept that my Schottisch Schocktruppen could not occupy and hold the seat of venerable 83 year old Labour Verräter Dennis Skinner.

“Our coup was plotted, planned and implemented with steely disciplined precision and still we were thwarted.

“Gott im Himmel. My Named Person could have done better if he had bothered to turn up.”

#RedTory rebel Dennis Skinner, 83, said: “The Nationalist lobby fodder were only following orders. Their Named Person Gruppenführer lost this time, but they will be back and I will be back before them.”
